JA Alumna Maintains Fond JA Memories for Nearly Half a Century

Junior Achievement staff often know the influence and power that a JA experience can have for a young person. But it doesn't hurt to hear that affirmation--even if it is 49 years later. Michelle Anderson, marketing and Greater Portland program director for Junior Achievement of Maine <http://jamaine.org/> , shared the inspiring story of a JA alumna who came back to Junior Achievement after nearly 50 years away from the organization.Lisa Rideout is a JA alumna who currently works for Norway Savings Asset Management Group <http://www.norwaysavingsbank.com/products_services_rates/asset_management/> . Lisa was interested in becoming a JA volunteer for next school year, so she met with Michelle to get more information. Through their conversation, Michelle discovered that Lisa participated in the JA Company Program? as an after school activity in Boston in 1965. ?Lisa told Michelle that in 1965 she had just moved and didn?t know many people or have a lot of friends. But a teacher mentioned that she should sign up for Junior Achievement?and she did. Once a week Lisa would take a bus and then a train ride to go to JA?and she loved every moment! Lisa said that not only did she meet new friends, but her JA experience sparked a love of business that changed her life.Lisa?s JA experience was so empowering that she even kept the JA product she and her teammates created?almost five decades later.?Lisa said she believes she is in the financial industry because JA sparked her interest when her group was selling stock for their JA company! As the 2014-15 school year begins this fall, Lisa is looking forward to volunteering for Junior Achievement and giving back to the organization that gave so much to her.
